This February I want every shop in my town to go red”

I always knew there was something wrong with me. I always felt so tired.

I didn’t know what it felt like to be normal.

At the age of 50 I was diagnosed with a rare heart condition.

I was told that I had heart failure and was going to need a heart transplant in a few years.

It was like having a steam roller running over me, but it explained why some days I could hardly breathe, or had trouble putting one foot in front of the other.

Since my diagnosis I have had a new pacemaker fitted which has helped me. I can go up hills without gasping, and I am still working.

I decided to set up a group of ladies to help me do some serious fundraising for the British Heart Foundation.

When Wear it. Beat it came this year I went to my local bank and asked them if they wanted to get involved. They did, with bells on!

They went for it big time with red wigs and sunglasses. There were lots of young guys in their 20s prepared to look silly.

It was a really fun day, and we raised £1,500.

This February I want every shop in my town to go red. That’s my goal.

If I can do just one thing to change a person’s life, it’s been worthwhile.

We need to beat heart disease

It was a normal Sunday evening with my parents. Just sitting on the sofa having family time. We were joking around when Dad suddenly collapsed. He died on Valentine’s Day when I was just 13. We found out later that he had an undiagnosed heart condition. I was very close to Dad. I was very […]
